If you’re like us, you’ve been to a lot of weddings. We love weddings. Every wedding is different and special. However, they can fall into the same format; ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, traditional activities (first dance, cake cutting, bouquet toss), dancing, departure. How do you make your day different? Something we love is when couples really put some thought into either, creating a special-unique experience for their guests, or really personalize their wedding with activities that are so them. Here are a few ideas that we just love!
- Games during the cocktail hour and after dinner
-Get a Custom Corn Hole set made and let your guests have it out!
-Have a big grass areas next to your ceremony? Set out bocce balls or a croquet set – just imagine the amazing photos of you and your new spouse with croquet mallets!
-Take a page from our Bride, Janice and rent a giant Jenga set for your guests to play with
- What are your hobbies together or favorite date night activities?
-Like to watch movies? Rent a popcorn machine and allow your guests to serve themselves while during the cocktail hour. You can also create a photo slideshow with an old-fashioned film reel theme in black & white (super easy to do on imovie!) or hire a videographer to create a trailer for your wedding!
-Love having couples- board game nights? Set a different quick-easy board game (think games like connect 4 and Uno) under the tables and have your DJ announce that they’re there after dinner.
-Love to cook together? Try to incorporate your favorite food into the menu. Better yet – doing a buffet? Try to offer a create-your-own dish. Such as a pasta bar with cooked noodles and different sauces and toppings or a guacamole bar!
-Love bowling? Set up a mini bowling alley!
-Are you and your fiancé bookworms? Work books into your wedding, make the table names your favorite novels, and incorporate old books into your centerpieces.
- Skip the traditional cake – pick a themed cake! I know Tanya would love a Back to the Future Delorean cake! Love pie? Get your local bake shop to bake you your favorites!
The bottom line – is that it is more than okay to be creative. Don’t worry about what is traditional or common. It is YOUR day, make it YOURS. Your guests will love celebrating you in the best way that you know how!
